William Konrad "Bill" Tkachenko Jr., 93, Minot died on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 in a Minot hospital.
William was born on June 26, 1921 on the family farm near Benedict, ND to William Sr. and Mary (Novlesky) Tkachenko. He was reared and educated in Iota Flat Township of Ward County and assisted his family with the operation of the family farm. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November of 1942 and served aboard the USS Bunker Hill and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal prior to his honorable discharge as a Seaman First Class on January 24, 1946. He returned to the family farm where he assisted his family with the farming operation.
Bill married Helen Solar on November 3, 1948 in Minot. They made their home on a farm in Van Buren Township of Renville County west of Glenburn. They moved to a farm south of Butte in 1952 prior to residing west of Minot. Bill quit farming in 1962 and became employed by G.T.A. Feeds as a truck driver for twenty years. He retired in 1982. Helen died in 1997.
Bill married Erna Farnum LeMay on June 13, 1998 in Minot. They made their home in Minot on 10th Ave. S.E. and at the Plaza 16 Apartments before Bill moved to Trinity Homes.
Bill was currently a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church - Minot and he especially enjoyed gardening, woodworking and dancing.
Bill's loving family includes his wife Erna; children: Billie (Carter) Myre and Rick Tkachenko all of Minot and Randy (Cheryl) Tkachenko of Sterling, AK, Mari- Anne (Albert) Sansour of The Dalles OR; daughter-in-law, Shirley Teschner Anderson; stepchildren: Robert Blowers and Marlene (Arnold) Brilz; stepgranddaughter: Michelle (James) Klimpel; Grandchildren; Tausha (Michael) Redmond of Mead WA, Erik (Teal) Myre of Sawyer ND, Joshua(Alissa) Smith of Portland OR, Greg (Debra) Teschner of Kansas City KS, Mike (Karen) Teschner of Rochester NY, Stephanie (Rob) Thomas of Galaway NY, Debbie (Mike) Reuss of Alamogordo NM, Leo (Brandie) Warmsbecker of Williston ND, Terry Warmsbecker of Williston ND, and Karen Warmsbecker of Dalles OR, Twenty-four great grandchildren; Five great great grandchildren; sisters: Viola (Joe) Frunz of Tacoma WA and Lila Dumdai of Puyallup, WA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, first wife - Helen, sisters: Helen Kabanuk, Jeanette Carmichael and Ann Prutsch; brothers: Ed, Nick, Chuck, Art and Russell; infant brother: Phillip; sons: Lance and Lauren.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
