Obituary

William Bernard "Bill" Siebert, 91, Minot died on Monday, February 29, 2016 in his home.

William was born on April 29, 1924 on a farm near Greene, ND to William and Louise (Wanner) Siebert. He grew up on the farm and was educated at rural schools in the area. He graduated from Kenmare High School in 1941. During high school, Bill was the North Dakota FFA state crop judging champion. He attended North Dakota State University for one year but preferred farming. He received a two year deferral from military service for farming reasons prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army on February 27, 1945 at Fort Snelling, MN. He served with the 56th Medical Corps in the Philippines and Korea and received the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal prior to his honorable discharge on December 18, 1946 at Fort Lewis, WA. Following his honorable discharge he returned to the family farm where he assisted his family with the operation of the farm.

Bill married Florence "Flossie" Johnson on December 30, 1950 in Bowbells. They made their home in Bowbells for a short time prior to moving to Minot where he was employed as a grain sampler for Minot Grain Inspection Company for ten years and as a construction worker at Minot area missile sites for two years. He began his career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1964 as a postal clerk and continued in that capacity until he retired in 1986. Flossie died on June 20, 2002. William continued to make his home at 210 10th St. N.W. until his home was heavily damaged in the 2011 flood. He moved to South Hill and most recently was a resident of Edgewood Vista.

Bill was a founding member of Little Flower Catholic Church and a life member of the V.F.W. Also, he was a member of the American Legion, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Moose Lodge, Hockey Boosters, Holy Name Society and A.A.R.P. where he was a past president of Chapter 522. Bill especially enjoyed visiting friends, hockey games, traveling and long talks with Flossie after work. Bill always said there was no finer place in the world than North Dakota in June and greatly loved his native state.

Bill's loving family includes his longtime companion Marie Levadney of Minot; children: Bill Siebert of Grand Forks, Patricia Siebert (John Anderson) of Minneapolis and Tracy (Kevin) Pagliuca of Hermantown, MN; grandchildren: Jessamyn, Christopher, Connor, Blake and Tess; great grandchildren Orion and Lucas; the family of Marie Levadney; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son: John, sisters: Katherine Schoemer, Bertha Essler, Ruth Erdman, Irene Hedlin, Alice Halvorson and Luella Armstrong and brothers: Lester and Louis.
