Obituary

William Henry Peters, 83, Minot and former Captain in the North Dakota Highway Patrol died on Sunday, August 4, 2013 in his home following a long battle with Alzheimers.

William was born on May 20, 1930 in Hoven, SD to Henry and Eva (Rittel) Peters. He was reared in Hoven and attended St. Anthony's Catholic School where he was a favorite of the nuns, served as an acolyte and participated on the athletic teams. Bill graduated from high school in 1948 and served in the U.S. Navy from September 28, 1948 until May 4, 1950. He served aboard the USS Yellowstone and received the Navy Occupation Medal - Europe. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Dakotas and was employed on the Garrison Dam and in a Linton Garage. Bill joined the North Dakota Highway Patrol in 1957 and attained the rank of Captain of the Minot District prior to his retirement in 1986. Bill married Darlene Tryhus Korslien on June 21, 1973 in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church - Minot. They made their home in Minot for many years.

Bill was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge and American Legion all in Minot. Also, he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and coin collecting. In his younger years, Bill was an excellent baseball pitcher and participated on U.S. Navy and minor league baseball teams.

Bill's loving family includes his wife of 40 years Darlene; daughter: Camette Peters of Fargo; stepson: Alan (Karen) Korslien of Great Falls, MT; wife of stepson Vernon: Kim Korslien of Minot; stepdaughter: Sandy Koss of Malta, MT; grandchildren: Johan (Melissa) Korslien of Grand Forks, Jordan (Amy) Korslien and Jacob Korslien all of Minot, A.J. Korslien of Missoula, MT and Ashley Korslien of Portland OR; great granddaughter: Zoey Korslien; step grandchildren: Erin and Matt Hudson of Missoula MT; sister: Lucille Artz of Antioch, CA; very special and loving caregiver Mellony O'Neill and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, stepson: Vernon Korslien, sister: Gladys Howe and brother: John Peters.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church - Minot.
Interment will be in the St. Anthony's Catholic Church Cemetery in Hoven SD.
Vigil Prayer Service: Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the donor\'s choice.
