Obituary

William Robert "Bill" Johnson, 94, Minot, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in a Minot hospital.

William was born August 14, 1923 in Sundre Township of Ward County, North Dakota, the son of Axel and Mathilda (Andersen) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Sundre Township and graduated from Minot Model in 1941. Following his graduation, he assisted his parents with the operation of the family farmstead near Minot.

Bill was united in marriage to Dorothy Bunker on October 7, 1945 in Minot. They made their home on the family farm in Sundre Township, where they continued farming, raising small grains and dairy cattle. He was also employed at Atlas Ready Mix in Minot. He retired from Atlas Ready Mix in 1989 and from farming in 1992. Dorothy died on March 27, 2006.

Bill was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot, where he served on the church council. He also did volunteer work at the church and served as an usher. He was a member of the Minot Moose Lodge and served on the Sundre Township Board and Bell School Board.

Bill enjoyed woodworking, traveling, fishing, gardening, square dancing, playing pinochle and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching Minnesota Twins baseball games.

His loving family includes , children, Daryl (Lorinda)Johnson, Garrison, ND, Vicki (Bill) Rust, Minot, Janie (Tom) Ripplinger, Minot, Shelley (David) Norton, Minot; 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren & 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Ethel Hauf, Max, ND; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; brothers, John, Clarence, Francis, along with his sisters, Florence Smith, Helen Darling, Hannah Hanson and Vivian Hagen.

Celebration of Life service : Friday, August 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment : Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
