Bill joined the North Dakota National Guard in the '60s and farmed in Virginia Township of Towner County with his father. Bill continued farming for several years after his father passed away in 1974.

Bill graduated in 1991, with the first class that had specialized training in flight simulation.
Bill and his family moved to Rome, in central New York State, to work at Griffiss AFB in August of 1991. After a four-year stay, they followed Bill's job in flight simulation back to his North Dakota roots in 1995 with a move to Minot. He retired from his position at the Minot AFB on December 26, 2014.
Bill was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Minot where he served as a greeter, manager of the soundboard and member of XYZ for many years.
