Wendell L. Hanson, 87, Minot, died Friday, May 25, 2018 in a Minot hospital.

Wendell was born April 18, 1931, in Northwood, ND to Albert and Louise (Gunderson) Hanson. He received his education in Northwood, graduating with the class of 1949.

He enlisted into the US Army in December 1956, serving his country honorably and was discharged in December 1958.

Wendell was united in marriage to Bernice Refling on August 15, 1957 in Crookston, MN. They made their home in Devils Lake, ND for a short time before moving to Minot in 1960. Bernice passed away in 1972.

Wendell worked his entire career at Gaffeney's of Minot. He specialized in servicing office equipment for over thirty years retiring as a service manager from the company.

Wendell was united in marriage to Jackie Neally Greek Tengesdal on September 22, 1974 in Minot. They made their home in Minot. Jackie passed away in 1996.

Wendell was a member of First Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge and Eagles Aerie, all of Minot. He also maintained longtime memberships in the ND Pottery Association and Minot Gun Club, where he honed his big game hunting skills through trap and target shooting during his active years.

Wendell was blessed to spend the rest of his life with a loving companion Gloria Castleman, finding each other after many years of friendship.

He was a history buff who loved to read. Wendell enjoyed the outdoors hunting across the state and into Canada and Alaska on various trips over the years chasing trophy elk, bear and moose. He will be missed by all who shared in his life but most by those who called him dad, grandpa, brother and friend.

Wendell's surviving family includes his loving companion of many years, Gloria Castleman, Minot; children, Kim (Don) Vitko, Tucson, AZ, Peggy Ranger, Hobe Sound, FL; Tom (Ginny) Greek, Joplin, MO, Holly (Ray Scarbrough) Gates, Bismarck, ND and Heidi Flagstad, Minot, ND; Fourteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris (Delvin) Gylten, Northwood, ND and Wanda Tufte, Mesa, AZ; brother, Dale (Jackie) Hanson, Madison, WI along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, spouses, Bernice and Jackie, son-in-law, Carl O. Flagstad, and brother-in-law, Marvin Tufte.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the ND Historical Society or to the ND Association for the Blind.
