Wayne R. Sabo, 65, Minot, died Thursday, February 16, 2012, in a Minot hospital.

Wayne was born March 24, 1946, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Rudolph and Jessie (Davidson) Sabo. He attended an all-boys Catholic school in Saskatoon, graduating with the class of 1964.

Following graduation he worked at Eaton's Department Store and then the Canadian Postal Service. He moved to Minot in 1968 to work for his parents at the Sandman Motel. Six months later he was drafted into the US Army, serving mostly in Germany until his honorable discharge on November 5th, 1970.

Wayne was united in marriage to Alvera Opstedal on July 26, 1975. They made their home in Minot. He began a seventeen year career at the Minot Air Force Base Hotel, working in maintenance and supply until joining Choice Hotels in 2000 for 10 more years. Wayne retired from his position at the Stanley Cenex Store in October 2011. In retirement, his 'job' was running errands for everyone.

Wayne attended Bible Restoration Fellowship Church of Minot for 28 years in addition to serving as a deacon for a number of years. Currently, he was a member of Eagles Wings Community Fellowship Church, Minot.

Wayne loved spending time with his kids and grandkids; playing games and trivia, watching John Wayne movies and the History Channel. He will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.

His loving family includes, wife of 36 years, Alvera, Minot; children, Robert Sabo, Minot and Catherine (Michael) Griffith, Minot; grandchildren, McKenzie Sabo and Paige Robertson, Samuel, Thomas and Colton Griffith; mother, Jessie Sabo, Vernon, B.C.; sister, Sharron (Ivan) Stone, Toronto, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Carol (Frank) Massine, Dallas, TX, Beverly (Leonard) Pederson, Towner, ND and Dale Sabo, Vernon, B.C.; brother-in-law, Vernon Opstedal, Rolette, ND and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Rudy Sabo and brother, Allistair Sabo.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m Thursday, February 23, 2012, at First Assembly of God Church, Minot.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND

Visitation: Wednesday, February 22, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to the Eagles Wings Community Fellowship Church of Minot Rebuilding Fund.
