Wayne Allen Huizenga, 83, Minot, died on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 in a Minot healthcare center.
Wayne was born on July 6, 1930 in Kevin, Montana to Alle and Hazel (Hughes) Huizenga. His family moved to Minot and Wayne graduated from Minot High School in 1948. Following his graduation, he attended Minot State College and began his career with the Great Northern Railway.
Wayne served in the North Dakota Army National Guard, Battery B, 188th Field Artillery Battalion from January , 1951 through September, 1952. He was stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama and then in Minot prior to his honorable discharge in 1956.
Wayne married Viola Sitch on April 21, 1951 at Camp Rucker, Alabama. Following their marriage, they made their home in Enterprise, AL before returning to Minot in October, 1952 where he resumed his employment with the Great Northern/ Burlington Northern Railway before retiring in June, 1992 following forty-three years with the railway.
Wayne was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Minot. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie, American Legion and NARVE and a former member of the Elks Lodge and United Transportation Union. His hobbies and special interests included hunting, fishing, gardening, bowling, and the outdoors.
Wayne's loving family includes his wife: Vi of Minot; daughter, Debora O'Callaghan of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Teige and Grace O'Callaghan, Bridgette Weltikol and Rebecca Kabanuk; great-grandchildren, Collin Abernathey and Jaydan Weltikol; brother-in-law, Raymond Wick of Minot and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian; sister, Beverly Wick; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Alvin Chelgren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Mae Sitch.
Celebration of the Life of Wayne Huizenga: Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Friday from 2:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are preferred to Trinity Hospice or to the donor's choice.
