Warren Atherton , 89, Minot, formerly of Stanley, died February 23, 2010, in a Minot nursing home.
Warren James Atherton was born November 5, 1920, in Boy River, Minnesota to Ben and Martha (Ponoir) Atherton. He was reared and educated through the sixth grade in Boy River. Following his formal education, Warren assisted with the operation of the family farm.
Warren was united in marriage to Betty Lucille Ziebarth on August 1, 1969. They made their home in Minot. Warren worked at Trinity Homes as a maintenance man for sixteen years until his retirement in 1984. In retirement, he gained part-time employment at the Green Thumb and AMS Janitorial for a number years.
In 1996, they moved to Stanley, ND. Warren and Betty attended the Baptist church in Stanley. Following the death of his wife, Betty on May 19, 2006, he returned to Minot, to be near his family.
He was a member of the Eagles in Minot. Warren's hobbies included gardening, fishing, and hunting. He will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.
Warren's surviving family includes: children, Emily Atherton (companion Roger J. Dietrich), Velva, ND, Ben Atherton, Stanley, ND, and Mary (Joseph) Zuck, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Ashley and Desirae Atherton, and Josie, Cassandra, and Katelynn Zuck, numerous nieces and nephews including, Alyce Selfor, Mavis Sandstrom and Francis Atherton; and a friend, Margaret Meckle, Minot, ND.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty, sisters, Bertha Campbell, and Mayme Wake, and brothers; Charles, Frank and Harold Atherton.
Funeral Service:
Monday, March 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation:
Sunday, February 28, 2010 from noon to 4 in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Internment:
Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold, ND in the Spring of 2010.
