Wallace (Wally) Marvin Iverson, 90 years young, formally from Lisbon and Minot died December 23rd at 1:35PM at the Veterans Hospital in Fargo.
Born in Flaxton, October 6, 1925 to Gus Iverson and Alpha Jensen/Iverson. He spent his youth on a farm in the Flaxton area and graduated from Flaxton High School. He did a lot of Skunk and Fox Trapping and became very accomplished at both.
Wally enlisted in the Navy during WWII, serving in the submarine forces. After the war he was assigned to a submarine tender and was shipped off to Japan where they stood watch on 36 Japanese submarines until they were taken out in the Pacific and sunk. Wally was married to Eva Lou Erickson, (daughter of Edward and Aurora Duncan/Erickson) in Plentywood, MT, on October 5, 1946. They had 4 children, Nicole (Nikki), Steve, Tim and Scott, which were raised in Flaxton, Portal and Minot. Wally returned to Flaxton and opened a butcher shop and later went to Minneapolis for telegraphy schooling adn was hired out to the Soo Line Rail Road in 1949, spending most of his railroad days in Portal working as an agent and operator. While in Portal he was elected to the City Council, joined the Masonic Lodge, was Commander of the Legion, Captain of the fire department, assistant Boy Scout leader and other mischief he could find like driving the honey wagon and school bus. In 1973 Wally was promoted to Train Master in Minot, ND, where he spent the remainder of his career and retired in June 1985. Wally married Delores Coons (daughter of Raymond and Ethel Lund) in Hawaii on April 26, 1988. She passed away and has one daughter Lynn and a son Matthew who Wally was very fond of. Wally sold his home and moved to The View in Minot. He was known for his many whittlings, pop can hobbies, baking his famous fudge, playing Bingo and pinochle, crocheting hats and enjoyed working the dining room with all the ladies and giving out free hugs to everyone! In 2013, Wally moved to the Veterans Home in Lisbon, ND, where he spent his time making new friends. He said the staff was AAA top notch from the administration down. A few fond family stories:Wally loved to trap and took sons Tim and Scott on the line where a skunk was in the trap. Scott wanted the skunk, so Wally tanned it. It smelled so bad he decided he would wash it at lunch when mom was not home. Well that night, mom was washing clothes and they came out smelling like skunk and had black/white hairs on them, and all hell broke loose.. Dad owned a baby bear, which got loose in Portal and was seen loose on a telephone pole and eventually was given to the Minot zoo, had numerous town barbecues including Porcupine which everyone didn\'t know what it was, one resident asked dad what it was and he said it is Tom Cat :)To Wally, his family meant everything, he was the most kind and passionate father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was always "Wonderful", and full of love to everyone he came in contact with.
