Waldo Oscar Krueger, 82 , Minot, formerly of Sawyer, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008, in a Minot hospital.
Waldo was born May 6, 1925, on the family farm in Iota Flat Township of Ward County, between Sawyer and Max, ND, to Gustav and Helen (Marschall) Krueger. He was raised and received his formal education in that area. Waldo was employed in the Navy Shipyard in Seattle, WA for a year before entering the United States Army on October 2, 1943. He served in the European Theatre during World War II, and he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with a Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. Waldo was honorably discharged on June 3, 1945.
Following Waldo's discharge, he was employed at Galesburg, IL for one and a half years as a construction worker for the railroad. He returned to ND, and was employed at Miller Mine near Velva. He attended Minot Business College before beginning employment with Nash Finch Company.
Waldo was united in marriage to Eloise Schmidt on June 3, 1950 in Sawyer, ND. They made their home in Sawyer for forty-eight years. During this time, Waldo was employed with Mackley Construction, and then at Piggly Wiggly grocery store for seven years. Later, he was a manager of National Food Stores. In 1965, Waldo began employment as a meat cutter with the Minot Air Force Base Commissary until his retirement in 1987.After retirement, he had been employed as a part- time funeral assistant by Thomas Family Funeral Home, working with three generations of the Thomas family.
Waldo was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot, and he was a former member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sawyer. This is where he served on the church council, and was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. Waldo was an active member of the Sawyer community, where he was involved in the Lion's Club, Senior Citizen's Center and volunteerFire Department. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. His hobbies included camping, traveling and visiting with numerous family and friends.
Waldo was a dear friend to many, and he will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.
Waldo's loving family includes his wife of fifty seven years: Eloise, Minot, ND; daughter: Paulette (Stan) Vetter, rural Minot, ND; sons: Daniel Krueger and David (Jodi) Krueger, both of Minot, ND and Randy Krueger, Yigo, Guam; grandchildren: Paige, Seth and Nathan (Kimee) Vetter; Alanna and Rhanda Krueger; and great-grandson Jesse Bryon Vetter. Sisters: Gerda Polsfut, Bismarck, ND and Dorothy Eddy, Ramsey, IL and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Waldo was preceded in death by his parents, stepfathers, infant sister Martha Krueger, sister, Hilda Faul, brothers, Paul, Awald, Edwin, Oswald and Reinhold (Jack) Krueger; sisters-in-law: Mabel, Laura, Helen, Violet and Genevieve Krueger. Brothers-in-law: Richard Eddy, Leo Polsfut, Emmanuel Faul and Elroy Schmidt.

Monday, February 18, 2008, 1:00 PM at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot, ND
Interment:
Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND
Visitation:
Sunday, February 17, 2008, from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home of Minot.
Memorials:
Memorials are preferred to the Our Savior Lutheran Church building fund, Dakota Boys Ranch and the Sawyer Lion's Club.
