Virginia Mae "Jinny" Rasmusson, 73, Minot and formerly of Norwich and Bottineau died on Saturday, July 26th, 2009 in a Minot hospital.
Virginia was born on September 29, 1935 in Bottineau, ND to Rangvald Berton and Stella Marie (Krogen) Sjule. She was reared and educated in Bottineau, graduated from the Dakota Lutheran Academy- Minot in 1953 and from Minot State University with a degree in elementary education. She had completed her Master's Degree by attending summer school classes.
Jinny married Richard D. Rasmusson on November 19, 1960 in Rugby, ND. They made their home in Minot where she taught at Dakota Elementary School at Minot Air Force Base, Jefferson Elementary School - Minot and Harrison Township Elementary School - rural Minot. They moved to Norwich in 1972. Following her retirement in 1980 she was employed as a substitute teacher at Granville Elementary School for five years.
They moved to Minot in 1993. Richard died on March 2, 1996.
Jinny was a former member of the Norwich Lutheran Church and its ladies organization and was in the process of transferring her membership to Augustana Lutheran Church - Minot. She was a member of the North Dakota Education Association and especially enjoyed gardening, holidays, cooking and family time. However, her number one priority was her grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her Grandma GiGi.
Jinny's loving family includes her children: Pamela (Larry) Mortensen of Minot, Troy (Sandi) Rasmusson of Warroad, MN and James (Lynn) Blakeway of Minnetrista, MN; grandchildren: Shane, Scott and Whitney Mortensen and Aaron, Garrett and Easton Rasmusson; great granddaughter: Stellar Mortensen; sister: Margaret Ann (Fred) Larsen of Hardwick, Vermont; brother: Tom (Sandy) Sjule of Detroit Lakes MN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jinny was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Vivian Hauge.
Funeral Service:
Thursday, July 30th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Augustana Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment
will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation:
Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
