Virgil E. Werner, 60, Minot, died Friday, May 25, 2012 in his home.
Virgil was born on March 2, 1952 in Minneapolis, MN to Robert and Jean (Massie) Werner. He graduated from Coon Rapids Senior High School in 1970. He received his certification as a welder from Anoka Technical College.
Virgil was called to active duty service with the US Navy on June 9, 1970 serving honorably until March 18, 1974.
Virgil was employed as a truck driver throughout the US for various companies over the next 20 years, spending most of his time on the east coast. In 1994, he made a permanent move to Minot. He was employed at Dominos Pizza, All American Trophies and Minot Air Force Base.
Virgil carried various memberships throughout his life to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. Mark's Lutheran Church and most recently to Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he was a confirmation teacher. He was also a member of the VFW and Christian Motorcycle Association, both of Minot.
Virgil enjoyed riding motorcycle and found great satisfaction in teaching youth of the Minot community. He will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.
His family includes a brother, Gordon (Becky) Werner, Webster, WI, many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends in Minot.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot. Interment: Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN
Visitation: Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
