Obituary

Virgil Berg, 82, Minot, died Saturday, October 15, 2016, in a Minot hospital.

Virgil was born April 15, 1934, in Minot, ND the son of Clarence and Hortense 'Nancy' (Abrahamson) Berg. He was raised in the Minot and Sawyer area, graduating from Sawyer High School in 1952.

Virgil was joined in marriage to the love of his entire life, Carole Klimple on October 17, 1953 in Minot. They made their home in Logan during their working years. He was employed by Behm's propane until 1960, when he joined Great Northern Pipeline through 1961. He finished his 44-year career with Portal Pipe Line Company in 1996. Virgil started as a dispatcher in 1962 and ended his career as a manager in charge of supplies, working diligently each and every day to ensure his coworkers had what they needed in the field to get the job done.

Virgil was Mr. Fix it in every sense of the word. He and Carole enjoyed their cabin on Lake Sakakawea at Parshall Bay for many years. He was a staple of life at Brendle's Bay Resort. He loved to fish but also enjoyed just being on the water. He mowed, fixed, took care of the minnows and was often leaned on for his knowledge of the water system for the Brendles Bay Cabins for many years. In 1995, Virgil and Carole moved to the Trappers Cove Townhomes in Minot. In his later years, Virgil served on the townhouse board, where he lined up what needed to be done for his neighbors and no task was too big or small. He worked hard his entire life often putting everyone else's needs before his own.

Virgil was a member of First Lutheran Church in Minot. He will be missed by his coffee and lunch partners and for the produce from his garden he grew in this younger years that so many were blessed to enjoy. He was a NASCAR fanatic and devoted fan of Jeff Gordon. He loved all sports from attending to watching on TV, local to pro if it involved competition, Virgil took it in. Virgil was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and trusted brother and friend to many, young and old. He will be missed by all who shared in his life.

His loving family includes wife of 63 years, Carole Berg, Minot; children, Kendall Berg, Minot, Wendy (Dennis) Beeter, Logan, ND and Kerry (Gainus Little Soldier) Brendle, Parshall, ND; grandchildren, Brandi (David) Johnson, Heidi (Chad) Kamminga, Melissa (David) Johannes, Kendra (fianc Jay Haaland) Beeter, Ashley (fianc Tyler Thiel) Beeter, Jesse (Emily) Berg, Becky Berg and Jordan (Danielle) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Tanner and Peyton Johnson, Hailey and Carsen Kamminga, Brekken, Cambrie and Bridger Johannes; sisters, Laurel Jean Berland, Velva and Helen Smith, Minot along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lloyd and Roger Berg.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016, at First Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park at a later date
Visitation : Friday, October 21, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association, First Lutheran Church or to an organization of the donor's choice.
