Violet Caroline "Vi" Hunter , 82, rural Minot, formerly of Hartland and former co-owner of the Green Thumb Greenhouse -rural Minot, died on Saturday, March 15, 2008 in her home with her loved ones by her side.
Violet was born on May 11, 1925 in Hartland, ND to Hjalmar and Selma (Johnson) Vedvig. She was raised in Hartland with one sister and two brothers. She was the Hartland High School Class of 1943 Valedictorian. Vi worked at Woolworth's for thirteen years and it was here that she met John "Jack" Hunter. They were united in marriage on March 27, 1949 in Minot. They were blessed with six children. They made their home in Minot where she continued her employment at Woolworth's and he was a brakeman with the Burlington Northern Railroad. Together they established, owned and operated the Green Thumb Greenhouse west of Minot from 1966 to 1977. They sold the greenhouse to their son, Terry, in 1977. Jack died on December 20, 1999. Vi had continued as the business' bookkeeper until 2005.
Vi enjoyed life to the fullest. Whether it was cooking, spending time with her friends or nurturing her children and grandchildren, she was happy doing it. She especially enjoyed spending time with her sister, Garnet, getting her hair done and playing bingo.
Vi was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and a former member of the Eagles Aerie.
Violet's loving family includes her children: Tamera (Chuck) Haseleu, Terry (Kathy) Hunter, Tim (Debbie) Hunter, Tom (Debbie) Hunter, Tracy (Kim) Hunter and Todd Hunter all of Minot; grandchildren: Kelsey (Matt) Meredith, Anna, Devin, Kyle and Kellen Hunter; Nathan, Calvin and Heather Berry; great grandson: Wyatt Meredith; sister and brother: Garnet Bloms of Carpio and Duane Vedvig of Jamestown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother: Floyd Vedvig.
Funeral Service
: Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in Augustana Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment
will be in Rosehill Memorial Park.
Visitation
: Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
