Violet Brummond Gleason, 97, Granville and formerly of Deering passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Violet Merle Hamilton was born October 5, 1916 in Sherburne County of Minnesota near Princeton to Everett and Mary (Wheeler) Hamilton. Her family moved to Granville, ND when she was two years old and she attended school in Granville.

Violet married Maynard Brummond on December 27, 1932. They made their home in Granville, Towner, and Deering before returning to Granville where she since had lived. During this time she owned and operated Vi's Caf in Granville and Vi's Market in Deering for 27.5 years. Maynard died on October 18, 1974. Violet married James Gleason on September 9, 1975 in Granville. James passed away on April 2, 1984. Violet retired in 1988.

Violet was a member of Hope Congregational Church - Granville and the Eagles Aerie and Moose Lodge both in Minot.

Violet loved watching the Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and basketball and baseball games, especially the Twins. No football for her. Her favorite hobbies were quilting and Bingo. If you mentioned playing Bingo she would beat you out the door. She will be deeply missed by her family.

Violet is survived by her son, Arlyn (Leone) Brummond of Laramie, WY; daughters: Valda Mahle and Sandra Duchscherer of Granville, ND; Darla (Gary) Cota of Dickinson, ND; daughters-in-law: Eileen Brummond, Granville; and Judy Brummond, Red Lake, MN; 22 Grandchildren, 50 Great-Grandchildren, 27 Great-Great-Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Shortly before her passing, Violet was hospitalized at the same time in the same hospital with five generations of her family when her identical twin great-great-grandchildren were born.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, sons: Mylen and Leslie, grandsons: Steven Duchscherer and Russell Brummond, great grandchildren: Jessie Cota, Russell Brummond, Chase Olson and Lisa Mahle; sisters: Lola Deibler, Laura Rowland, Maude Dahn, Almeda Allison, Shirley Stutts, Mildred Hamilton and Mable Hamilton; brothers: Earl, Frank, Edward and Clifford and sons-in-law: Adam Duchscherer and Arne Mahle.

Celebration of the Life of Violet Gleason: Tuesday November 19, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in First Lutheran Church, Granville.
Interment: Granville Community Cemetery, Granville, ND.
Visitation : Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot .
The family prefers memorials to Trinity Hospice, Hope Congregational Church in Granville or the donor's choice.
