Viola Mae Gullickson, 89, Max, formerly of Benedict, died Friday, February 22, 2019 in the Garrison Hospital.
Viola was born September 20, 1929 at Kongsberg, the daughter of Edward and Olga (Thorson) Erickson. She was raised at Ruso, Garrison and Benedict and attended schools in those communities.
During her younger years, she was employed as a waitress at a restaurant in Garrison.
She was united in marriage to Elmo Gullickson on July 31, 1950 at Max. Due to Elmo's employment in the construction industry, they lived in Minot and Logan for a time and later in Benedict, prior to moving to Max. Viola had provided assistance at her son's business in Minot at Minot Muffler. Elmo died September 28, 1994. Since his death, she had made her home in Max.
Viola was a current member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Max, and former longtime member of the Concordia Lutheran Church, Benedict. She had also been a member of the Max Senior Center and the Benedict American Legion Auxiliary.
Her special interests included, crocheting, baking, and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed watching her beloved Minnesota Twins Baseball Team.
Her loving family includes, children, Terry (Nancy) Gullickson, and Gary (Jody) Gullickson, both of Max; five grandchildren to include: Kenneth (Sara) Gullickson, Kari (Craig) Rodenberg, Jamie (Jared) Schmidt, Heidi Hatlestad & Jory Hatlestad; 13 great grandchildren to include: Madison, Delaney, Aubrey, Kylie, Lauren, McKenzie, Allison, Alexander, Andrew, Abbie, Alexis, Kayden and Grayson; brother, Edward Erickson, Benedict; sister in law, Marlene Erickson, Garrison; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 44 years, Elmo; along with her brothers, Orris (Evelyn) Erickson, Donald (Elaine & Mary Lee) Erickson, Ronald, and Alvin (Marlys) Erickson; sister in law, Eleanor Erickson; brothers and sisters in law, Willis (Myrna) Gullickson, Kermit (Carolyn) Gullickson along with her nephews, Leon and Orlan Erickson and Gordon Gullickson.
Celebration of Life service: Friday, March 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Max.
Interment: Bethania Cemetery, Benedict, later in the spring of 2019.
Visitation: Thursday, February 28th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to Bethania Cemetery Fund or organization of the donor's choice.
