Vernon D. Olson, 82, Minot, died Wednesday, August 8, 2018, in his home.
Vernon was born July 25, 1936, in Zortman, Montana to Charlie and Ruth (Born) Olson. During his youth he enjoyed spending time on many of his friends' ranches in the area. He was educated in Towner, ND and joined the US Air Force and entered active duty on November 3, 1954. He served his country honorably and was discharged from Castle AFB in California on September 10, 1958.
Following his military service, he worked on the highline in South Dakota near Faith, SD. He met the love of his life, Teresa Stiles, a waitress at the local caf. They were united in marriage on May 27, 1963 in Sturgis, SD. They moved to Minot in 1965 and settled to a home located west of the Magic City.
Vernon gained employment with SuperValu in Minot working in a variety of departments for many years. He began his career in the trucking industry with Kedneys Moving & Storage and later joined Allied Van Lines working until he retired at the age of 62 to care for his wife Teresa.
Vernon had many interests and hobbies during his lifetime. He enjoyed hunting and loved flower gardening. He also played guitar in several local bands and was especially proficient in singing Hank Williams' songs. He was a very dedicated Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He deeply treasured the time spent with his siblings, who have been forever a part of his life, but had a special place in his heart for all of his nieces and nephews.
Vernon's loving family includes his sisters, Leah (Ray) Waltzer, LaVerne (Bruce) Knapp and Viola Schell (Don Hoffert), all of Minot, ND; sister-in-law, Shirley Olson, Bismarck along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Teresa, sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Bud Getzlaff, brother, Chuck Olson, brother-in-law, Tony Schell and nephews, Dean Olson and Tim Schell.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
