Verena Emilia Bober , 76, Minot died on Saturday, March 15, 2008 in her home.
Verena was born on November 13, 1931 on the family farm near Roseglen, ND to William and Dorothy (Yahnke) Zimmerman. She was reared on the family farm and educated in Wright Country School prior to attending and graduating from Makoti High School in 1949. She continued her education at Trinity Hospital School of Nursing. She temporarily gave up her nursing career to marry Joseph Bober of Douglas, ND. They made their home on the Bober family farm prior to moving to Minot. When Joe was involved in the road construction business they resided at various communities in ND as well as Rapid City SD, Sheridan WY, Grand Junction CO and Denver CO. Joe died on May 18, 1975. She remained in Denver for a short time and then moved to Garrison, ND and was employed in the Garrison memorial Hospital accounting office. She returned to Dickinson State College in 1979 and received her degree in nursing.
Verena's nursing career was largely spent at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison from 1979 until 1991 where she was a staff registered nurse, in-service director, assistant director of nursing and acting director of nursing. She retired in 1991. Verena married Mitchell Bober in 1992 in Montana. They made their home in Minot. Mitch died on September 25, 2005.
Verena was a member of the First Baptist Church, Minot as well as the Eagles and Moose Lodge Auxiliaries. She especially enjoyed her beautiful yard, reading and sewing. She took several memorable trips to the Dave Bober farm in Saskatchewan with her beloved mother Dorothy Zimmerman.
Survivors include her son: David (Mary) Bober of Hudson Bay SK; grandchildren: Bernard (Tracey) Bober, Samuel (Rhonda) Bober, William (Lynette) Bober, John Bober, Leona (Glen) Smith; great grandchildren: Gage, Cody, Danielle, Amy, Ashlee, Kyle, Alyssa, Emma; sister: Berniece Buum of Rapid City SD; Sister-in-law: Doris Zimmerman, Roseglen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Verena was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son: Dennis and brothers: William and Robert Zimmerman.
Funeral Service
: Thursday, March 20, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Minot.
Interment
will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation
: Wednesday, March 19, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials:
Memorials are preferred to the Parker Senior Center.
