Velma Pearl Hansen (Gramgram) , 90, Jamestown, formerly of Minot, died Saturday, April 20, 2024 in a Jamestown nursing care facility.

Velma was born February 13, 1934 at Scobey, Montana, the daughter of Nicholas and Pearl (Willard) Marsh. She was raised in various communities in Minnesota, Montana, and North Dakota. In 1953, Velma moved with her family to Minot. She met Melvin Hansen at the Farmer's Union Coop Store, where she was employed as an office clerk. On December 21,1956 she and Melvin were married. They raised two daughters, and during that time she provided childcare to a great number of other children in their home, then worked as a lunchroom and playground supervisor at various Minot schools.  Later in life, she enjoyed working at Myers Meats during deer season, taking in deer to be processed at their plant. Melvin died August 7, 1999. Velma continued to reside in Minot until 2016, when she moved to Fargo and in 2018 moved to Jamestown.

Velma loved her Christian faith and appreciated the great many friends she made and had fellowship with.

Velma's interests were many.  She enjoyed cooking and baking – especially buns and cinnamon rolls which everyone loved.  She also loved traveling, reading, cross-country skiing, knitting, quilting, sewing, growing flowers, and was a member of the Horticulture Club in Minot. Due to her family's frequent moves when growing up, Velma wasn't able to complete high school, and in 1985, she completed her GED, then wrote her High School Equivalency exam which she passed with very high marks, making her family very proud.

Her loving family includes, daughters, Candace (Kraig) Ferch, Lamoure, ND; Wanda (Ed) Atcheson, Salmon Arm, BC, Canada; 3 grandchildren, Kaylee, Adriana (Dustan) and Kaden (MaKenna) Other family members: Maria and Jason Seward and family, Ethan and Rebecca Badertscher and family; siblings Raymond (Marilyn) Marsh, Cleo (Frank) Kent; sister-in-law, Helen Marsh and brothers-in-law, Rodney Stroud, Kent Johnson; along with many nieces and nephews.
