Velma Fettig died Friday, March 6, 2026, in Minot at an assisted living facility surrounded by her loving family at the age of 91.
Velma was born August 5, 1934, on the family farm near Frederick, SD to William and Rauha J. (Rääsiö) Anderson. She was raised and educated in Frederick, graduating from high school in 1952.
Velma was united in marriage to Herman Fettig on April 23, 1960, in Seattle, WA. They returned to Aberdeen, SD to make their home and raise their son Todd. The three of them would enjoy many adventures, especially when camping. They would move with Herman's career to Pierre, SD, then Minot, ND. Along the way Velma would enjoy employment in office positions with Job Service, an accounting firm, First Lutheran Church, and the Dakota Square Mall before retiring in 1997.
Velma was a member of First Lutheran Church, where she was active in the church circle and with altar guild. She especially enjoyed attending church activities for her granddaughters who grew up in faith at First Lutheran Church. Velma had a love for cooking, baking, puzzles, puzzle books, and going for walks. Velma and Herman would travel in their retirement to play golf, visit family, and shop, one of her favorite activities. She was proud of her Finnish heritage and her family. She was a loving wife and mother, before becoming a loving and proud grandma to Joelle and Sydney. In her later years they would become her number one fan by treating her with spa days, pizza parties, and other shenanigans.
Velma is survived by her son Todd Fettig and his wife Lesley, of Minot; grandchildren Joelle and Sydney Fettig and Max, Madison, and Hunter Erickson; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herman and siblings, Arnold Anderson, Vivian Raisanen, Violet Holderness, Archie Anderson, and Allen Anderson.
