Torres "Tory" Julia (Jacobson) Olson, 88, Garrison and formerly of Max, ND left this world peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2012 to join her heavenly father and be reunited with her parents, brother and sisters there.
Torres was born on November 26, 1923 in Douglas, ND to Torstein and Anna (Nygaard) Jacobson. She was reared on the family farm in Rosemont Township of McLean County and educated in rural schools. As a young adult she assisted her parents and siblings on the farm.
Torres married Robert Olson on June 23, 1944 in Douglas. They made their home on farms in the Douglas and Max areas. In 1958 they purchased their farm in McLean County near Max where they raised their family.
Torres was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Max where she was active as a member of the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday school. While her children were in school she was active in the PTA, Band Mothers and other school activities.
Torres enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, singing, crossword puzzles and reading. She especially loved to spend time with her children and their families. Torres was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her world. Her children fondly remember the wonderful smell of her fresh baked bread, buns and caramel rolls that greeted them when they came in the door after school. The grandchildren loved trying to beat grandma at games, especially UNO and SKIP-BO.
Torres is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Robert; children Virgil Olson; Merlyn (Warren) Iverson; Dorcas (Curtis) Wenger; Ruth (Kenneth) Honcharoff; JoAnn (DuWayne) Hendrickson; John (Lynette) Olson; Susan (Andres) Moreno and their families; 17 grandchildren and an ever expanding number of great grandchildren; sisters and brother in laws, Helen Jacobson, Chris (Lois) Olson, Joann Olson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
