Obituary

Thomas Wood, 86, Minot, died Thursday, August 5, 2010 in a Minot nursing home.

Tom was born November 14, 1923, in Elbowoods, North Dakota to C.E. and Hartie (Weintz) Wood. At an early age, he moved to Minot with his family where he was raised. He was educated at Harrison Grade School and Model High School.

Tom was inducted into the US Army on May 24, 1944, serving in the infantry division in the European Theater of World War II until his honorable discharge on June 18, 1946.

Following service to his country, Tom was united in marriage to Esther Brostrom on September 19, 1948. They made their home in Minot, where he began his employment with Minot Sand and Gravel. He worked his way to manager of the plant, a position he held for sixteen years until his retirement in 1979. Esther died February 7, 1970.

Tom married Hilda Brown in 1971. They enjoyed a life together that involved a move to Arizona and Rapid City, SD until returning to Minot in 1993. Hilda passed away in 1997.

Tom married Erna (Abel) Seidler on April 27, 2002 in Minot, where they made their home. Tom and Erna loved spending time together with their loving families that grew to include many children and grandchildren.

He was a member of First Assembly of God and a former member of the West Minot Church of God. He served on the Board of Directors for Northwest Bible College and Baukol-Noonan Coal Company. He had a lifetime interest in gold mining and caring for family and friends.

His loving family includes, wife, Erna, Minot, children, Allen (Wendy) Wood, Grand Forks, ND, Peggy (Gary) Isaacs, Brooklyn Park, MN, Andrea (Brad) Graham, Salt Lake City, UT, Robyn (Bill) Fell, Aurora, CO, Sharlene (Nelson) Tomlinson, Phoenix, AZ and Marlyn (Kristie) Seidler, Underwood, ND; grandchildren, Mike, Brian, Lindsey, Jason, Bruce, Lynnette, Tanya, Jody, Nichol, Gary, Chris, Lindsey, Kristee, Julie, Theresa, Suzanne, Lori, Benjamin, Jessica, Roger and Cassie; 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Esther and Hilda, sisters, Iva Carlson, Mary and Marjorie Wood and brothers, Eugene Wood and James Wood, who died in infancy.

Funeral service : Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God, Minot, ND
Interment : Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND
Visitation : Monday, August 9, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials : Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
