Thomas A. Volk Jr., 58, Minot, died on Monday, August 11, 2008, in a Minot hospital.

Thomas was born January 5, 1950, in Rugby, ND, to Thomas Sr. and Katherine (Volk) Volk. He was raised on a farm located SE of Towner, ND and attended Towner High School. Thomas married Rita Gerle in 1970. He graduated from Bismarck Junior College in 1971 with a degree in Auto body.

The family moved to Grafton, ND, where Thomas was employed at Kmart Inc, in the automotive department for a number of years. In 1980, the family relocated to Minot where he continued his employment with Kmart.

In 1984, he began employment as a mechanic at Westlie's Tire of Minot; where he worked as a mechanic for the next twenty years. He joined Harry's Tire in 2004, where he worked until ill health forced him to retire in 2007.

Thomas enjoyed visiting with friends and playing billiards. His family was dear to him, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved spending time with. He will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.

Surviving family includes: Daughter: Jenny (Andrew) McLeod, Moorhead, MN; Sons: Tommy and Robie Volk, Minot, ND; Grandchildren: Hope and Gunner McLeod and Arionna and Jeremiah Volk; Brothers: Ed A. (Carol Laber) Volk, Minot, Fabian (Ruth) Volk, Bismarck, ND, and Leonard (Carol) Volk, Fargo, ND and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral: Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, ND;
Interment: St. Cecilia Cemetery, Towner, ND;
Visitation: One hour prior to the start of the service in the funeral home.
