Thomas Richard Steenstrup,
83, passed away Sunday, May 15th at Trinity Hospital. Tom was born November 5, 1927 in Minot, the son of Harry P. and Gail (Carr) Steenstrup. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Minot High School in 1945 and attended the University of North Dakota and Minot State Teachers College.
In 1946-1947 he served with the US Army in the Philippines with the 2766th Engineer Base. Tom and Beverly Sorlien were united in marriage December 28, 1947, at First Lutheran Church, Minot. They moved directly to Kansas City, Missouri after their wedding where he attended the Kansas City School of Watchmaking. After his graduation in 1949, they returned to Minot where he entered the family jewelry business with his father.
Tom was a member of First Lutheran Church, Rotary Club, Minot Elks Lodge, Ducks Unlimited, Minot American Legion where he was active in the Drum and Bugle Corp., Minot Country Club, Minot Chamber of Commerce, and was a former president of the Minot State Teachers College Beaver Booster Club.
Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a strong advocate of the NRA. He also enjoyed golfing, boating, and was an aviation enthusiast. In his later years he enjoyed watching golf and football on TV. His family was most important to him. He was a true friend to many.
Tom is survived by, his wife of 63 years, Bev; daughters, Susan Larson of Minnesota, Andrea (William) Bobb of Centennial, Colorado; son, Harry (Karen) Steenstrup of Minot; grandchildren, Sean (Melanie) Larson, Katy (Marc) Halvorson, Thomas and Emily Steenstrup, Annika and Tailyr Bobb; great-grandchildren Jake and Avery Halvorson; and sister, Jean Grubbs.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Harry; mother, Gail; children, Nancy and Eric; son-in-law, Lynn Larson.
Private service to be held Wednesday, May 18th, at The Dakotah Rose, formerly the Carr (Dr. Andrew M. and Addie) family home, where Tom was born and raised in his early years.
