Thomas "Tom" E. Johnson, 69, 625 15th Street S.E #91, Minot, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, in a Minot nursing home.
Tom was born in Minot, on May 10th, 1937, the first of three children born to John Edward and Agnes Luella (Mulvihill) Johnson. He attended St. Leo's school for the twelve years, graduating from St. Leo's High School in 1955.
During his younger years, Tom was employed in a number of jobs in the Minot area before graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Minot State University in June of 1966. He taught at a number of schools in Minnesota and North Dakota, including three years at Powers Lake High School from 1969 to 1972.
Tom left the teaching field to work as an addiction counselor. He worked as an outreach alcohol and drug counselor in Bottineau County for two years before moving to in-patient counseling at St. Joseph's chemical dependency unit. During the 1980's he worked in the Bismarck Public School system helping to develop a student assistance program for young people with the school system.
Tom enjoyed cards, was an avid poker player, and a friend of Bill W. for over 37 years. He will be missed by all who shared in his life.
His loving family includes : Brother, Patrick J. Johnson, Washington D.C; a niece: Cynthia Jenson, Minot, several nephews including: Brian Beeter, Scottsdale, AZ, Dennis Beeter, Minot, Brent Beeter, Bowbells, Kenton Beeter, Minot, Brad Beeter, Minot and Mark Beeter, Mesa, AZ.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Agnes Beeter.
Funeral service
: Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation
: Friday from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
