Thilman George "Tim" Anderson, 96, Granville died Thursday, October 8, 2009 in a Minot nursing home.
Tim was born September 30, 1913 on the family farm in Riga Township near Granville, ND to Ole and Regina (Jacobson) Anderson. He was reared and educated in that area. As a young adult he was employed as a coal hauler.
He spent 2.5 years serving his country in the 4th Infantry of the U.S. Army during World War II, mostly in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. Following his honorable discharge, he purchased the Anderson family ranch which his father had homesteaded in 1910. Tim married Anna Bjergaard on March 26, 1945 in Minot. They made their home on the ranch following their marriage where they developed a herd of purebred Charolais cattle. They retired in 1988 and moved to Granville. Most recently he had been residing at Trinity Homes for the past two years.
Tim was a member of the McHenry County Park Board, American Legion Post #500 and First Lutheran Church, both in Granville. He especially enjoyed working on mechanical problems and restoring horse drawn buggies and sleighs. A horse lover he was proud of his Belgian team of horses
He is survived by his loving family: wife, Anna, son, Alvin "Bill" (Marlys) Anderson, of Tucson, AZ; grandsons: Chris (Mia) Anderson and Aaron Anderson: great grandchildren: David and Sylvia Anderson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Orland, Alvin, Lester, Ed, and Irving Anderson and sisters, Alida Brown, Rena Anderson, Cecelia Strege and Mildred Rollman.
Funeral Service:
Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Granville.
Graveside Service:
Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation
: Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to the First Lutheran Church in Granville.
