Terry L. Kummer, 44, Minot, died Monday, May 10, 2010, in his home.

Terry was born September 4, 1965 in Rugby, North Dakota to Foster and Bonnie (Ziebarth) Kummer. He grew up in Anamoose, where he graduated from high school in 1983.

Following graduation, he enlisted into the ND National Guard where he received his basic training at Ft. Leonardwood, MO. Terry was honorably discharged on January 30, 1991.

From 1990-1993, he co-owned and operated the Copper Penny Bar in Anamoose with his mother. Terry was united in marriage to Paula Uhlich at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose on May 30, 1998. They made their home in Minot. Terry gained employment as a carpenter for a number of construction companies including Becker Construction of Anamoose, until starting Kummer Construction in 1995. Terry operated the business and was also employed as a weatherization specialist for Community Action of Minot until his health forced his retirement in November 2007.

Terry was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. He was an avid fisherman taking yearly fishing trips with his brothers. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and was known to love cooking and baking with his daughters. Terry was awarded the Fox Television Father of the Year in 2001. He always felt his greatest accomplishment in his life was his loving relationship with his daughters and wife. Terry will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.

Surviving family includes: Loving wife, Paula, Minot; daughters, Joey and Emily Kummer, both of Minot; brothers, Randy (Carmen) Kummer, Wahpeton, and Jeff (Erin Nelson) Kummer, Jamestown, ND; sister, Cindy (Mark) Roerick, Harvey, ND; mother, Bonnie Kummer, Anamoose, ND; maternal grandmother, Josephine Ziebarth, Harvey, ND; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, brother, Bryan Kummer, paternal grandparents, Christine and Emil Kummer, maternal grandfather, Clarence Ziebarth, niece, Holly Kummer, and nephew, Danny Uhlich.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.
Recitation of the Rosary: 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010 at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.
Visitation: Friday, May 14, 2010, from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot and from 6:00 p.m. until the start of the start of the service at the church.
Memorials: Memorials are preferred to an educational fund that will be established by the family for his daughters.
