Sylvia Kvale, 82, Minot, died Friday, October 25, 2019 in her home.

Sylvia was born December 5, 1936 on the family farm in Carbondale Township of Ward County, southwest of Donnybrook, ND to Lester and Dorotha (Workman) Wehrman. She graduated from Donnybrook High School in 1954 and attended Minot Business College.

Sylvia began work at a bookkeeping job at Minot Home Builders on Minot's north hill. It was there that she met and later married Cliff S. Kvale on September 3, 1955 in Donnybrook. They made their home in Minot with their family of five children. She sewed many clothes for herself and for her girls. Sylvia was also active with the Girls and Boys Scout Troops while her children were young.

Sylvia began working in the fabric department at Tempo in the early 1970's. She stayed with the business until it closed in September of 1981. She then began her work as a volunteer in the gift shops of Trinity Nursing Home for several years. She sewed many items that were sold at the shop.

After Walmart opened in 1991, Sylvia joined their fabric department working at the fabric counter for the next eleven years until she retired in 2002. Sylvia continued to create by piecing quilt tops and having them machine quilted. She also crocheted afghans for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sylvia and Clifford became residents of Somerset Court of Minot in the Fall of 2014. Clifford passed away in 2015.

Sylvia was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church in Minot. She enjoyed reading and sharing he gifts of her talented hands through crocheting, quilting and sewing.

Sylvia's loving family includes children, Joanne Kvale, Minot, Linda (Bill) Sand, Burlington, ND, Kevin (Lynne Baudin) Kvale, Norwich, ND; son-in-law Larry Friedrich, Boonville, MO; grandchildren, Keith (Penny) Friedrich, Brian (Robin) Friedrich and Mathew (Gladys) Friedrich; great-grandchildren, Tori Brown, Breann Friedrich, Dalton Friedrich, Clayton Friedrich and Harley Friedrich; sister Joyce Ekness; brother Willis Wehrman; sisters-in-law Emelia Satre, Hazel Engberg and Margaret Henderson; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Marion) Kvale along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford, daughters Ardyce Friedrich and Sandra Kvale Mareaux, granddaughter Deann Friedrich and grandson Justin Kvale.

Celebration of Sylvia's Life: 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2019 at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
Visitation: Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are preferred to Vincent United Methodist Church or to the Souris Valley Animal Shelter.
