Obituary

Sylvia Deardurff, 82, Minot and formerly of Burlington died on Saturday, October 24, 2009 in a Velva care center.

Sylvia was born on October 12, 1927 on the family farm in Willis Township of Ward County south of Sawyer, ND to Carl and Ida (Seney) Irwin. She was reared on the family farm and attended rural schools in that area.

Sylvia married Robert Deardurff on September 6, 1949 in Minot. They made their home in Minot where she was employed by Bell Telephone and Dakota Beverage Company as a bookkeeper. The family moved to Burlington in 1961 and Sylvia owned and operated a beauty salon, Deardurff's Hobby House and Designs by Sylvia. In addition, she was employed by the Good Shepherd Daycare and the UniMed Gift Shop. Bob and Sylvia returned to Minot in 1992 and spent the winter months in Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Bob died on July 17, 1998. Sylvia continued to reside in Minot until she moved to the Souris Valley Care Center in August of 2009.

Sylvia was a former member of the Church of God of Prophecy - Minot where she was active in a variety of activities and served as financial secretary. She especially enjoyed bowling, traveling, camping and ceramics, but most of all spending time with her family.

Sylvia's loving family includes her sons: Dalton (Bonnie) Deardurff of Maple Grove, MN and Todd (Lynnette) Deardurff of rural Des Lacs; grandchildren: Jefferson Deardurff, Lynsey (Dwayne) Bechel, David (Mindy) Deardurff and Dawn (Todd) Hagness; great grandchildren: McKenna, Annika, Devyn, Zaedyn, Kelsi, Leksi and Caden; and step great grandson Jamie Bechel, special friend: Emil Fiesel of Minot, sisters: Fern Degree of Minot, and Edith Berg of Arizona; brother: Robert Irwin of Bismarck, and Orville Irwin of Washington and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Bernice Klimpel, Corlea Irwin, and brothers: Wesley, Harold, Marvin "Red" , Lee, and Earl Irwin.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in West Minot Church of God.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
