Sula May Bruins, 73, Minot and formerly of Donnybrook died on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in a Minot hospital from complications related to cancer with her loving family at her side.
Sula was born on March 31, 1944 in Kenmare, ND to Otto and Leona (Cline) Scharbow. She was reared and educated in Donnybrook, graduated from Donnybrook High School in 1962 and received specialized training in accounting at the Minot Business College. As a young adult she was employed as a bookkeeper at Ace Hardware.
Sula married Leo Bruins on May 23, 1964 in Minot. They made their home in Fargo briefly before returning to Minot later in the year. Sula was employed as a bookkeeper at TBA, Home of Economy, Northwestern Equipment and Minot Feed Center prior to finishing her career at St. Joseph's and Trinity Hospitals from 1980 until 2009.
Sula attended Our Redeemers Church - Minot and was a member of the Minot Trail Riders organization and the Ward County Dive and Rescue Team. Also, she was a 4-H leader in her younger years. She especially enjoyed bowling, sewing and volunteer work.
Sula's loving family includes her husband of 53 years: Leo; children: Elise (Sean) Harron of Kingman AZ, Clinton (Paige) Bruins of Florence AZ, Lana (Dan) Clouser of Bethesda MD and Darla (Alan) Howard of Cando; eight grandchildren: Tana Meister, Bennett Rowell, Samantha and Nanami Clouser, Payton, Grant and Garrett Howard, and Wyatt Roberts; two great grandchildren: Teagan and Titus Billirakis; siblings: Elvina Rockeman of Minot and Linda (Ira) Scherrer of Bellevue WA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sula was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Howard Rockeman, and grandson, Tanner Rowell.
Celebration of the Life of Sula Bruins
: Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Our Redeemers Church - Minot.
Interment
will be in Rosehill Memorial Cemetery - Minot.
Visitation:
Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to Our Redeemers Church or an organization of the donor's choice.
