Sue Ann (Miller) Olafson, 54, rural Glenburn, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 in a Minot Hospital.
Sue was born on March 19, 1960 in Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of Doran and Connie (Brooks) Miller. She was raised on the family farm near Minot and educated for a short time in a one-room schoolhouse near there. She was educated in the Minot Public Schools, and she graduated from Minot High School in 1978. Sue attended Concordia College in Moorhead before transferring to Minot State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in music education and later a Master of Arts degree in music education.
Sue was united in marriage to Blaire Olafson on July 8, 1980 at First Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home on a farm near Glenburn, where they raised three children. Sue was employed throughout the years as a music educator at Glenburn Public School, Deering Public School, Minot Air Force Base at Dakota Elementary and most recently in Minot at McKinley, Edison and Washington Elementary Schools.
Sue was an active member of First Lutheran Church, where she served as president of the Church Council, sang with the Cathedral Choir and directed the children's choirs. She was a member of the Minot Education Association and she served as a state representative. She also ran for the ND State Legislature on two different occasions. Sue enjoyed creating hardanger (Norwegian embroidery), reading, and spending time with loved ones.
Her loving family includes husband, Blaire; children, Chase Olafson, Minneapolis, MN, Clinton (Kaylee) Olafson, RR Minot and Sarah Olafson (fianc, Adam Novak), Minot; sisters, Faye Miller, San Francisco, CA, Kim (Brad) Fisher, San Francisco, CA, David Miller, Fargo and Janet (Chad) Parton, Minot; father Doran Miller, and several nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her mother, Connie.
Funeral service
: Monday, August 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment
: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation:
Sunday from Noon-5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
