Steven Andrist , 27, Minot, died Saturday, March 21, 2020 in his home.
We grieve the loss of Steven like many who knew him or knew of him. He was a young man who lifted others up, loved with his whole heart and forgave just as graciously. Steven's infectious laugh, dimpled smile and sense of humor so bright, hid the depression that riddled his thoughts.
Steven passed away in his mother's home in the early hours of March 21 from a heroin overdose. His mental health issues led to struggles with addiction. These diseases caused legal, financial and family problems. Yet, none of that compares to the pain we feel with this loss.
Bubba, you are loved and missed! Your jokes, laughter and smile will be our fondest memories. May you finally see how loved you are. You are finally freed from your chains. As family, we ask that you help to battle depression and addiction through open, judgment free conversations. Lift each other up when we struggle. Please reach out if negative thoughts consume your thoughts. Always see yourself as more than any negative comment, situation or circumstance. When you are down, listen to songs like 'Red Letters," "Who You Say I Am," "Good Grace" & "King of Kings" - just a few of Steven's go to songs.
Steven's death may not be part of God's plan. We need to be open to the lesson that Steven's life and death present to us. His love for his family, friends, Olive Garden, and church family was greater than the love he had for himself. He would encourage you to keep fighting the fight with all your heart and know that you are more!
Steven's surviving family includes his mother Heather Leier, Minot and his father Calvin 'CJ' Andrist, Minot; sisters Emily Andrist, Mandan and Addyson Leier, Minot; step siblings Sheena LaVallie, Sasha LaVallie and Tyler LaVallie, all of Minot; maternal grandmother Renee Scott, Brandon, FL; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents Franklin 'Butch' and Johanne Andrist, Jerry Scott and Edward Southam and brother Holden Ybarra.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Steven's family will celebrate his life with a private service at the Thomas Family Funeral Home.
