Obituary

Stephen B. "Steve" Repnow, 37, died September 17, 2010, in Minot.

Steve was born February 6, 1973 in Bismarck, ND to Gary and Sheila (Scott) Repnow. He was raised in Underwood, ND until moving to Stanley, ND in the summer of 1984. He continued his early educational years in Stanley, graduating from Stanley High School in 1991. He went on to further his education at Minot State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work in 1996. His social work career began in 1996 at Rehab Services in Minot where he was employed for five years. In May of 2001, he joined the staff at Community Action Opportunities to develop and coordinate the Teen Court Program. Steve then became the Executive Director of Independence, Inc., a non-profit organization, which helps people with disabilities remain independent in their homes. In August of 2010, he joined the staff at the Quentin N. Burdick Job Corps Center as the Director of Admissions/Outreach, where he was employed at the time of his death.

Steve married his high school sweetheart, Alison Aardahl, in Stanley on June 17, 1994. They were the parents of three sons, Drew Stephen, born in 1996, Dane Alex, born in 2000, and Jay Joseph born in 2007. Steve actively pursued his passion for athletics and music in high school. He was extremely proud of his football accomplishments and vocal awards. His love of music continued to be a big part of his adult life, and he was honored to be asked to sing at weddings and funerals of many family members and friends.

Steve was totally committed to his family and career. He was actively involved in his sons' activities as a volunteer football and baseball coach. He clearly encouraged individuality wanting his boys to be the best they can be in developing their own specific interests, skills and talents. Steve was a dedicated professional in the field of human services. Because of his dedication he was awarded the 1999 Outstanding Placement of Individuals with Disabilities and 2004 Distinguished Service Award by the Minot Mayor's Committee on the Employment of Persons with Disabilities. Steve has served as a Commissioner on the Minot Housing Authority Board of Commisioners, a member of the Village Family Services Advisory Board, Governor Appointed Member of the ND Olmstead Commission, as well as a member of the Minot State University Beaver Booster Board of Directors. Steve was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Steve is survived by his wife, Alison; sons, Drew, Dane & Jay; mother & stepfather, Sheila (Richard) Maluski, Stanley, ND; ND; father, Gary Repnow, Bellevue, WA; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Repnow, Coupeville, WA; sisters, Stephanie Repnow (Joe Frausto), Bellevue, WA and Stacy Marrujo (Jaime), Granville, ND; stepsister, Kim Sarte (Pierre), Richmond VA; mother-in-Law, Janet Aardahl, Stanley, ND; brother-in-Law, Alex Aardahl and his fianc, Amber Jacobson, Minot; nieces and nephews, Nick Rents, Josh and Brianna Marrujo, Hannah and Thomas Sarte; several special aunts, uncles and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, Aurthur (Bud) and Josephine Scott; Walter Repnow and father-in-law, Marvin Aardahl.

Funeral Service : Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.
Internment : Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation : At the request of the family there will be no reviewal, however friends may sign a memorial register book on Tuesday from 1:00-6:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers or plants, memorial gifts are preferred for an educational fund to be established for his children at Town and Country Credit Union, c/o Repnow Education Memorial Fund, PO Box 2046, Minot, ND 58702.
