Obituary

Stella Marion Lynne, 91, Minot and formerly of Ryder died on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 in a Minot hospital.

Stella was born on April 19, 1917 on the family farm in Bluehill Township of McLean County near Ryder, ND to Carl and Josephine (Sather) Anderson. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural schools in that area. At the age of eleven she began cooking for threshing crews during the harvest season. It was while she was cooking for a threshing crew that she met the love of her life Norrie. In addition she cleaned homes for area families. Thus, her strong work ethic was established at an early age.

Stella married Norrie Lynne on March 7, 1940 in Fairview, MT. They made their home in Nohly, Glendive, Harlem and Great Falls all in Montana. While residing in Great Falls she was employed as a chef at 4-B's Restaurant for 25 years. Norrie died on March 19, 1982. Starting in 1983, Stella spent Fall, Winter and Spring in Glenallen and Wasilla, Alaska with her daughter's family. The Summer months were spent in Great Falls and Phoenix with her son's family. She moved to Minot in 1993 to be closer to her daughter's family. She was employed as a statement stuffer at Town and Country Credit Union for several years and at Rollie Port Investigations as the main copy person.

Stella was a member of Bread of Life Lutheran Church - Minot where she was very active in kitchen activities especially baking bread (for fifth grade confirmands) and cookies. She was a member of the Sons of Norway, Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge and Rebekah's organization. She especially enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and crossword puzzles, but her passion was her family, with baseball a close second. She was an avid supporter of the Minot Mallards Minot Greenheads, and Minot youth baseball teams volunteering countless hours to the teams and serving as "mom" to several of the Mallards players and grandma to the Wasilla basketball team. She was a special lady who touched the lives of many people and in her early years her home was the heart of the community.

Stella's loving family includes her daughter: Carol (Rollie) Port of Minot, grandchildren: Susan (Jon) Hoffman of Seattle, Katy (Jim) Allers of Minot, Christina (Larry) Markwardt of Bismarck, Damee Port and Rob (Jessica) Port all of Minot; great grandchildren: Chelsea Port, Bryan and Carl Whaley, Amber and Tyler Allers, Kyle and Kenzie Markwardt, Harleigh and Layla Port; sister: Doris Sorenson of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son s: Jerry and Duke and great grandson Riley J. Glessing.
