Dr. Stanley Keck, 83, Minot, formerly of Turtle Lake, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in a Minot healthcare center.
Stanley Walter Keck was born on January 24, 1930 on the family farm near Turtle Lake, ND to August and Kathryn (Wagner) Keck. He was reared on the farm ten miles southeast of Turtle Lake. He attended Koenig School #1 and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1947. He continued his education and graduated from Jamestown College in 1951 with a degree in Chemistry and from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, with a degree in medicine in 1953. He received his M.D. degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and served an internship at Charles T. Miller Hospital in St. Paul, MN from 1955-1956. Dr. Keck served in the U.S. Navy for two years as a submarine medical officer for Squadron 10 with the USS Fulton based out of New London CT from 1956-1958.
Dr. Keck married Patricia Brandriff on June 11, 1955 in Tinley Park IL. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy they made their home in Rochester MN where he served an Orthopedic Surgery Fellowship at Mayo Clinic from 1959 1963. The family moved to Minot when he became associated with Northwest Clinic as an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Keck and the late Dr. George M. Hart formed Orthopedic Surgery Associates in 1967 and were later joined by the late Dr. Myron Peterson and Dr. David Uthus. Dr. Keck served as President of that entity until he retired on December 31, 1989.
Dr. Keck was a member of the AMA, ND Medical Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and served as Chief of Staff of Trinity Hospital for a time and he especially enjoyed sausage making, world travel, hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening and spending time at his hobby farm near Foxholm.
Dr. Keck's loving family includes his wife of 57 years Patricia "Pat" Keck of Minot; children: John (Anne) Keck of Little Canada MN, Margaret (Truman) Smith and Catherine Steward, of Minot; grandchildren: Paul, Jessie and Tara; sister: Doris (Skip) Beggs of Jamestown and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Verna Jesser and brother: Robert Keck.
Celebration of the Life of Dr. Stanley Keck: Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park Minot.
Visitation: Monday, May 13, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army.
