Obituary

Sophie Clarice Sevalson, 93, Minot formerly of New Town, died Thursday, April 2, 2015, in a Minot nursing home.

Sophie was born June 7, 1921, to Paul and Carrie (Solberg) Mickelson in Garrison, ND. She was reared and educated in Garrison, where she graduated with the class of 1939. She attended two years at the Trinity School of Nursing in Minot.

Sophie was united in marriage to Arnold Marvin Sevalson on February 24, 1944, in Taunton, MA. They moved to Missouri, while Arnold was taking trade courses in plumbing and heating. They moved to Van Hook, ND and later to New Town in 1952, where they began the operation of Sevalson Plumbing and Heating for 15 years.

Sophie began working as a bookkeeper for Northrop Grumman in 1973, serving the company for the next twenty years until her retirement in 1993. Arnold passed away in 1994, and she moved to Minot in 1995.

She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in New Town, where she was a member of its church circle. Sophie was an active member of the New Town Study Club and of the American Legion Auxiliary in New Town. She attended Bethany Lutheran Church after her move to Minot.

Sophie enjoyed the outdoors her entire life. She was known to wet a line in the summer time or she could be found in the garden, testing her green thumb. She enjoyed sewing in her spare time and was most talented as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Sophie will be missed by all who shared in her life.

Sophie is survived by her daughters, Connie (James) Hildebrand, Bismarck, ND and Myrna Anderson, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Travis Hildebrand, Teri (Brian Wiedeke) Anderson, Gregory (Andrea) Anderson and Deborah (Tony) McNeil; great-grandchildren, Michael Wiedeke, Claire Anderson, Benjamin Anderson, Alexis Anderson, Abigail McNeil and Joseph McNeil and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
