Sommai Savath, 72, of Minot ND passed away on July 21st, 2026 in Bismarck ND.

Sommai was born in Bakam, Laos on August 11, 1953 where she was then raised.

After the fall of Saigon she fled to a refugee camp in California.

She came to USA, California in the year 1981. Mai then resided in Denver then Dallas, TX until the passing of her husband. After his passing she was cared for and became the life partner of Namphong Thongphet for over 30 years.

Mai was an amazing cook and found joy in bringing her dishes to family gatherings. She would enjoy fishing and foraging with Pong. She loved every new grandchild that joined her family and relished the chance to spend time with them.

Mai joins her father On Sornsay, her mother Phing Sornsay, her older brother Thidyorn Sornsay and older sister Prathom Sornsay.

Sommai is survived by her older brother Theng Sornsay and younger sister Lam Sornsay along with her nieces and nephews back home, and all her children and grandchildren in the state of North Dakota.

Her family would like to thank the ICU doctors, nursing staff and case management for showing Mai as well as them love and compassion in her passing.

A celebration of life will take place on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
