Signe Louise Eggen, 95, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Minot, Columbus and Lignite ND, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in a Moorhead nursing home.
Signe was born on November 15, 1915 in Thorson Township of Burke County near Battleview, ND. She was the second of eleven children born to Martin & Kirsti (Enget) Berg. She grew up on the family farm and attended Pleasant View School prior to graduating from McGregor High School in 1933. As a young adult, she was employed by area families as a housekeeper.
Signe married Norman Eggen on November 21, 1936. They made their home on a farm in Foothills Township of Burke County near Lignite, ND where they raised small grains, sheep and cattle. They moved to Columbus in 1970 and to Minot in 1996. Norman died in 2001. Signe moved to Minnesota in 2007 and to the Eventide Nursing Home in 2010 after a fall that broke her hip.
Signe was a member of Tonset Lutheran Church, rural Lignite, where she served as organist for nearly 30 years. She also was an active member of the Ladies Aid, along with serving as Sunday School superintendent, teacher and music leader. After moving to Columbus, they joined Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ladies circle.
Signe's loving family includes her children, Dennis (JoAnn) Eggen of Battle Lake, MN, Gene (Pat) Eggen of Minot, Marian (Les) Dever of Fargo, Christine (Jim) Dunlap of Farmington, NM, Grandchildren Brad, Chad, Jodi, Lisa, Rachel, Mark, Shelly, Randy, Mike, Sara, Crystal and their spouses, 16 Great Grandchildren, siblings, Kenneth Berg, Olga Kristianson, Ellen Carlson, Agnes (Jerry) Hamerlik, Borghild Berg, Irene Hellekson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Signe was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman, infant son, grandson Kelly Eggen and brothers Odmar, Magne, Arnold and Harold.
A celebration of Signe's life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus, with interment at Tonset Cemetery, rural Lignite.
Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
