Shirley JoAnn Skar, 69, Minot and formerly of Turtle Lake died on Monday, September 29, 2008 in a Minot nursing home.
Shirley was born on July 21, 1939 in Peoria, Illinois to Theodore and Marie (Presser) Lindteigen. She was raised there and in Turtle Lake where she attended school and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1957.
Shirley married Elmer Skar of Crosby on June 9, 1957 at Turtle Lake. They have made their home in Minot at 106 21st St. N.W. since 1962. Shirley was employed at Osco Drug, Fountain of Crafts, Fab n Trim, Super Valu, Sunmart Garden Shop, Granny's Antiques and was self employed as the Friendly Welcome Service.
Shirley was a member of First Lutheran Church and its WELCA and spent countless hours assisting with the rommegrot preparation for the Hostfest. She was a member of the Letter Carriers Auxiliary, Merry Mixers Craft Club and Special Friends Morning Breakfast Bunch. Shirley helped to organize Presser family reunions. She especially enjoyed genealogy, crafting, traveling in their motor home, gardening, baby sitting and time spent at Rice Lake.
Her loving family includes her husband of 51 years Elmer; children: Randi (Joel) Joersz of Washburn; Tracy (Russell) Billing and Jay (Jill) Skar both of rural Minot; grandchildren: Shane and Stephen Joersz, Sarah and Stephanie Billing, Harris Hanson, Jett, Jakob and Jase Skar; sister: Donna Grabinger of Turtle lake; brothers: Wayne Lindteigen of Bismarck and Carvell Lindteigen of Rock Spring, Wyoming as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Service:
Monday at 10:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment
will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation:
Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to First Lutheran Church or to the ND Veterans Cemetery.
