Shirley Ann Meek, 84, Minot, formerly of Williston, passed peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2014 in a Minot nursing home.
Shirley was born on May 9, 1930 in Williston, ND to Emil and Esther (Nelsen) Krogh. She was reared and educated in Williston and graduated from Williston High School in 1949. As a young woman, she was employed as a bookkeeper at the Williams County Courthouse.
Shirley married Robert Meek on July 1, 1950 in Williston. The family moved to Minot in 1957 where Shirley was employed as a secretary at M.D.U., Trinity Nursing Home and Watne Realtors prior to becoming the executive secretary for Garnet Cox, the Dean of Students, at Minot State University. She retired in 1995. Robert passed away on November 20, 2009. She continued to reside in Minot with her canine companion, Bitzy, most recently at Trinity Homes.
Shirley was a member of First Lutheran Church, Williston and Minot, where she volunteered every Monday and enjoyed fellowship time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with all their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cleaning, reading, exercise classes, and volunteering at the Norsk Hostfest.
Shirley's loving family includes her children: Glen (Marlene) Meek of Fargo and Gail (Roger) Duchsherer of Minot; six grandchildren: Rauscha (Mike) Butler, Gwen (Jason) Ludwig, Chantel (Travis) Kuhn, Stacey (Mike) Golde, Michael (Kelly) Duchsherer and Melissa (Mike) Adams; twelve great grandchildren: Hannah, Ava, Juliana, Avery, Olivia, Carsen, Erin, Kaydin, Masen, Karter, Kyleigh and Braden; sisters: Vivian Meek of Marysville, WA and Betty Mattison of Renton, WA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Eric and great granddaughter, Leah.
Celebration of the Life of Shirley Meek: Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, September 15, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
