Shirley Gorthy, 81, Minot, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in a Minot assisted living facility.

Shirley Ann Yetterboe was born on July 27, 1945 in Jamestown, ND to Phillip and Ethel (Huebner) Yetterboe. She was raised and educated in Jamestown, graduated from Jamestown High School in 1963 and attended MTI Business School in Sacramento, CA.

Shirley married Johnnie Gorthy on September 19, 1964 in Jamestown and they made their home in the Sacramento area for ten years. They moved to Minot in 1974 where Shirley worked at First Western Bank for two years prior to accepting a position as a budget analyst for Civil Service at the Minot Air Force Base. She retired in 2006.

Shirley was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church, Sewers of Love, Business and Professional Women and American Society of Military Comptrollers. Her hobbies included reading, jewelry making, riding motorcycle, traveling, and quilting.

Shirley’s loving family includes her husband of 61 years, Johnnie; children: Shawn (Traci) Gorthy and Jade (Travis) Cork; sisters: Sharon (Jim) Hatlewick and Linda (Marvin) Schaunaman; five grandchildren; one great grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and brother: Duane (Judy) Yetterboe.

At Shirley’s request no formal services will take place.
