Obituary

Sherman Rudy Skjoldal , 85, Minot and formerly of Lemmon, SD, peacefully went to Heaven on October 9th, 2020. He was surrounded by his son, Randy, and two of his grand kids.

Sherman was born the 3rd Month, 27th Day, of 35. This is how he would say his birthdate and it always made his family smile. He was born to Haakon and Marta (Underland) Skjoldal in Lemmon, S.D.

He grew up on his family farm near Thunder Hawk. He lost his dad due to a farming accident at the tender age of 5, and his mother became ill, so he was raised by his Tante (Aunt) Fina. She was a strong Norwegian woman and a faithful servant of God who helped shape his life. He talked fondly and often about her, his family, childhood friends, and growing up on the farm.

He met the love of his life, Bonnie Borud, or like he used to call her, the purdiest redhead ever. They were married on June 15th, 1958 in Missoula, Montana. They were blessed with four children. Steve, Randy, Greg, and Shellie.

He had nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who brought so much joy to his heart.

Sherman worked at Intermountain out in Montana in his younger years. He then moved back to South Dakota and worked with his brother on the farm. And in his later years, he worked with his sons at North American Van Lines.

We are sure going to miss him. We are grateful to have been loved by the kindest, most gentle, beautiful soul we have ever known. We will love him forever. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers during this sad time. We appreciate them.

Sherman is survived by his children Steve (Pam) Skjoldal, Randy Skjoldal, Greg (Deb) Skjoldal, Shellie (Darrin) Mayer, and daughter-in-law Kelly Halseth; grandchildren Stefanie(Todd) Dauwen, Cody Skjoldal, Daniel Skjoldal, Randi Wurgler, Cayla Palacios, Alexis (Pat) Peterson, Josh (Arvin) Skjoldal, David Skjoldal, Joey (Taylor) Mayer; nine great grandchildren; sister Esther Wolff; brothers-in-law Gary Rhodes and Bruce Borud; sister-in-law Shirley (Bernie) Gossmann along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Sherman was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie, parents Haakon & Marta Skjoldal, his Tante Fina, brothers Henry (Vera) and Malven (Hazel) Skjoldal; sisters Ann (Bob) Anderson, Millie (Sheldon) Scott, Lillian (Dale) Brockel, Shirley Rhodes, and a two year old infant sister Ruth, father and mother-in-law Manford & Gladys Borud, brothers-in-law Kenny Borud and Bill Wolff, sister-in-law Cheri Borud and daughter-in-law-Denise Skjoldal.
