Sherman August Brandt, 82, longtime Upham area resident died on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Knife River Care Center in Beulah.
Sherman was born on September 24, 1931 on the family farm near Upham, North Dakota to Henry and Cora (Grondahl) Brandt. He was reared on the farm, baptized and confirmed at Bloomfield Lutheran Church and educated in Upham. As a young adult he assisted his family and neighbors with farming and was employed by Walter Otto Construction Company. Also, he farmed in the area.
Sherman married Ramona St. Croix on October 17, 1956 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home on farms in the Upham area or in Upham for fifty-three years. In addition to farming Sherman drove truck and school bus. He retired in 1999, but he and Ramona continued to reside in Upham until they moved to Minot in 2009 before moving to the Knife River Care Center in Beulah in June of 2013.
Sherman was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church and its church council as well as the Elevator Board, Housing Development Association, Fire Department and City Council all in Upham. He especially enjoyed gardening, walking, assisting the elderly townfolk with errands and being outside.
Sherman's loving family includes his wife of 57 years Ramona; daughter: Jodi (Lynn) Aipperspach of Beulah; son-in-law: Brian Erdman of Upham; grandchildren: Cheston (Amie) Erdman, Nathan (Jessica) Erdman, Lauren (Johan) Haman, Katrina Aipperspach and Caleb Aipperspach; six great grandchildren: Callie and Gabriel Erdman, Daysha, Jaran and Tracen Erdman and Hayleigh Haman; siblings: Lois Degner of Bismarck, Ronnie (Diana) Brandt of Upham, Wesley (Delores) Brandt of Granville and Lana (Galen) Best of Denbigh and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sherman was welcomed into paradise by his parents, daughter: Darla Erdman and brothers: Jerry and Dale Brandt.
Celebration of the Life of Sherman Brandt: Friday, June 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in New Hope Lutheran Church - Upham.
Interment: Bloomfield Cemetery - rural Upham
Visitation: Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
