Obituary

Sheldon Ray Haner, 56, South Prairie, died Monday, May 6, 2019 at his home.

Sheldon was born September 12, 1962 in Minot, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm near Douglas and attended the Douglas school through the 2nd grade until it was closed. He continued his education at Max Public School, graduating there in 1980. He received an Associates Ag degree from UND Williston in 1982.

Sheldon is remembered in love. We proudly celebrate the life of our beloved husband, father, Poppy and brother. As we do so, we remember that his greatest pride was his beautiful marriage to his beloved wife of nearly 35 years, Joni. They were united in marriage on June 22, 1984 at Max. His proudest accomplishments were his three children, the lives they developed, and their grit and determination. He often spoke of their successes, the soul mates they each chose as their own and the way they are fulfilling their destinies. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than his grandkids. He lived his life to bring happiness to each of his family members. He was an instigator and loved to tease and make others laugh.

Sheldon was a man of faith, with a gift of gab and a side of sarcasm. He was often times the voice of reason and was patient and always forgiving. He had a deep love of the land and was always pursuing his dream of farming and ranching. He was proud to continue the family tradition on his Grandpa Carl Almy's homestead. We liked to tease Dad about whether Grandpa Carl would approve of his choices. With his first love in life being his cattle, he liked to tease Joni about their "damn horses", however he loved watching his kids develop their first love with animals. He lived vicariously through each one of his kids starting with 4-H, FFA and their continued interests. He was always proud of their accomplishments in 4-H, having gone to two national judging competitions. He served as the clerk of Gasmann Township for twenty years. His favorite winter past time was shooting league pool, which he participated in for over twenty five years. Even though our hearts are breaking, we will always remember his deeply devoted, unselfish, endless love. His legacy will live on in those he touched throughout the years.

His loving family includes, wife, Joni Haner; children, Lindsey (James) Johnson, Rural Minot; Drew (Bethany ) Haner, Rural Minot and Megan (Matthew) Enget, Rural Minot; grandchildren, Olivia, Ethan and Avery Johnson; Natalie & Trevor Haner and Brekynn Enget; parents, Arden and Judith Haner, Douglas, ND; sisters, Lisa (Jeff) Krueger, Max, Anita (David) Riemer, Douglas and a brother, Trent (Casey) Haner.

Sheldon was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carl and Agnes Almy and his paternal grandparents, Harold & Anna Haner.
