Sheila Schoenwald, 76, rural Sawyer and formerly of Garrison died on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in a Minot hospital with her loving family at her side.  She had been struggling for many years with health issues.

Sheila Ann was born on November 8, 1944 in Garrison, ND to Lloyd and Eleanora (Frank) Fliginger.  She had nine brothers and sisters.  She was raised on a farm near Garrison and attended country school prior to graduating from Garrison High School in 1962.

Sheila married Jerald Schoenwald on November 29, 1963 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Max.  They made their home on a farm in Brillian Township of Ward County between Sawyer and Max where they raised small grains, and cattle. Sheila returned to school during the late 1980's and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education and Accounting from Minot State University in 1991.  Sheila was employed as a bookkeeper at Metzger's Electronics, secretary at Bethany Lutheran Church and in sales at the Floor to Ceiling Store and Tollefson's Furniture.

Sheila was a member of Hope Lutheran Church – rural Sawyer where she was an officeholder.  She especially enjoyed quilting, scrapbooking, cooking, flower gardening and family gatherings.

Sheila's loving family includes her husband of 57 years Jerald; daughter: Leslee (Michael) Borowski; grandchildren:  Joshua, Christopher and Justin Borowski; siblings:  Joy (Pete) Lies, Betty (Donald) Sorenson, Kandyce (Lee) Sundberg, Cindra Fliginger, Harvey (Julie) Fliginger and Dean Fliginger (Christy); brother-in-law: Dennis Chisholm and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, son: Brent Jeryl; infants: Lee Ann and Kellea Dawn; siblings: Linda Chisholm, Rosale (Charles) Alsbury and Rosemond Lucken.

Celebration of the Life of Sheila Schoenwald:  Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church – Minot.  Face Masks are recommended.  A livestream of the service will be available by accessing http://bethanylutheran.tv/

Graveside Service:  Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 1:15 p.m. in the Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery – rural Sawyer.
Visitation: Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund or to the donor's choice.
