Sheila Gladys Demaree, 81, Minot died on Sunday February 21, 2016 in a Minot nursing home.
Sheila was born on January 25, 1935 in London, England to Leonard and Eva (Childs) Roberts. She was reared and educated in London and graduated from Pathfields Secondary School in Clacton, England. As a young adult she was employed by the British government as a telephone operator for seven years.
Sheila married Jerry Demaree on November 2, 1957 in Clacton. They made their home in England for a short time before they moved to Minot in 1958. She was a fulltime wife, mother and homemaker until she served as a nanny for the Steve and Jackie Velk family from 1992 until 2005. A highlight of her life was becoming a United States Citizen.
Sheila was a longtime member of the Congregational United Church of Christ where she was involved in the church choir, bell choir, taught Sunday school, served as a deaconess and on the church council and was secretary for the women's organization. She was a member of the Women of the Moose where she was a past regent and served on the Rituals Team. Also, she was a Girl Scout leader in her younger years.
Sheila especially enjoyed knitting, arts and crafts, embroidery, gardening, cake decorating, traveling, camping and snowmobiling. One of her greatest passions was hosting her family and friends at her home.
Sheila is survived by her husband of 58 years: Jerry; children: Jan (Larry) Abel of Williston, Dawn (Dean) Godejohn of Minot, Sarah Collins of Santa Maria, CA and Andrew Demaree of Minot; grandchildren: Laurel Abel, Amanda Eichmann, Tanya Cordova, Natasha Rauchman, Ashley Wald and Jessica Hovda; ten great grandchildren; in-laws: John and Marlene Demaree, David and April Demaree and June Flemmer all of Minot and Billy and Maggie Demaree of Mandan and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Kenneth "Bobby" and Chez Roberts; grandson: Joshua Abel; great grandson: Austin Rauchman and in-laws: Rex and Margaret Demaree, Donna Demaree and Irvin "Butch" Flemmer.
Celebration of the Life of Sheila Demaree: Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Congregational United Church of Christ.
