Sedgefield D. Hill , 96, Minot and longtime resident of Beaver Lake, NE died Saturday, September 26, 2020 in a Minot nursing home.
Sedgefield Delancy Hill was born October 16, 1923 in St. Paul, MN to Sedgefield T. and Laura (Richardson) Hill. He spent the years of his youth in St. Paul until joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 shortly after the invasion of Pearl Harbor. Sedgefield dedicated the next three decades of his life serving his country across the globe until retiring in 1973 as a Master Sergeant.
Sedgefield was united in marriage to Wilda Mackey on June 20, 1958 in Ogden, Utah. After his military service, they made their home in Beaver Lake, NE. As a civilian, Sedgefield found work for the Sarpy County Sheriff's Department as a radio dispatcher. Sedgefield worked with the Security Department of Clarkson Hospital. Sedgefield also volunteered for the Bellevue Rescue units for many years and was instrumental in establishing the Tangier Shrine Roadrunner Club drivers, who helped patients get to their respective health appointments.
Wilda passed away on February 15, 2017. Sedgefield moved to Minot in November of 2017 to be near his son Michael.
Sedgefield enjoyed spending time outdoors during his active years. Sedgefield and Wilda enjoyed cross country camping in their unique lowboy style camper mixed with boating on the lake making many memories over the years. Sedgefield treasured his time spent at reunions of his beloved 451 st and 307 th Bomb Groups and always looked forward to the next gathering. He will be deeply missed.
Sedgefield's loving family includes his grandchildren Jason (Karen) Hill, Oregon, WI and Jennifer (Christopher) Rast, Ellsworth AFB, SD; great-grandchildren Collin, Andrew, Emma, Jacob Kathryn and Madelyn; nephews Paul Holmgren and Kenneth DeKyne; niece Elizabeth DeaKyne, Indianapolis, IN a number of great nieces and nephews.
Sedgefield was preceded in death his parents, wife Wilda, son Michael Hill, sister Elizabeth Deakyne, daughter-in-law, Linda Hill; nephews Barry Holmgren and Chris DeaKyne; and extended family in-law Cindy Holmgren.
Graveside Celebration of Sedgefield's Life with Military Honors will be held in the summer of 2021 at the Oakland Cemetery, St. Paul, MN.
