Salina Belva Bruns, 85, Bismarck and formerly of Minot and Makoti died on Monday, June 29, 2015 in a Bismarck hospital.
Salina was born on June 17, 1930 in Williston, ND to Iver and Selma (Fougner) Borlaug. She was reared and educated in the Williston, Trenton and Bonetrail areas. After her education she moved to Evergreen CO with a school teacher and assisted her with her children. After a year in Evergreen, she returned to Williston where she was employed at Woolworths, Coast to Coast, Andy's Bakery and the Luzon Caf. She met her husband, Paul Bruns, while working at Woolworths.
Sally married Paul Bruns on October 1, 1949 in Williston. They made their home in Williston for several years prior to moving to a farm north of Ryder in 1953 and to a farm east of Makoti in 1962. Sally was employed as a cook in the Makoti Caf and Makoti Senior Citizens Center. She was known for her delicious soups and homemade meals. After retiring and selling the farm she and Paul moved to Minot in 2008 and made their home at Dakota Terrace Apartments and Brentmoor Assisted Living Center. Paul died on November 23, 2010. Sally continued to reside in Minot until 2011 when she moved to Edgewood Vista in Bismarck.
Sally was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church and its ladies aide as well as the American Legion Auxiliary, Stitch and Chatter Club and birthday club all in Makoti. She especially enjoyed cooking, gardening and embroidery.
Salina's loving family includes her children: Beverly (Donnie) Janz of Balfour, Duane (Kerry) Bruns of Minot, Mary (Jerry) Petersen of Bismarck, Carol Wurtz of Minot, Darrell (Lori) Bruns of Makoti, Lola (Finny) Meyers of Deering and Rodger (Julie) Bruns of Minot; seventeen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; siblings: Iva Bauste and Gloria (Marlo) Blomberg both of Williston, Willard (Janice) Borlaug of Hazen, Allen (Carol) Borlaug of Baxter MN; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Olga Breeding, Irene Wilson, Syneva Sliper, Lorraine Olson and Bertha Grimstvedt; brother: Silvan Borlaug and grandson, Anthony Meyers.
Celebration of the Life of Salina Bruns: Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Hope Lutheran Church Makoti.
Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery Makoti.
Visitation: Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the ND Chapter of the Alzheimers Association or the American Cancer Society.
