Obituary

Ruth Nelva Hall, 99, Quitman, TX formerly of Glenburn, ND was promoted to heaven on August 28, 2017.

Ruth was born April 4, 1918 in Chatfield, MN. The fifth of seven children born to Peder and Minnie (Borgen) Johnson. Raised on a farm in southern Minnesota, Ruth has fondly recounted many of the things of her youth, as she and her siblings worked hard and played hard in that environment.

A fine young man from N. Dakota made a trip to Minnesota to visit relatives, at which time Stanley Hall had the opportunity to meet and fall in love with Ruth in 1938. Their long-distance relationship lead to a marriage on October 12, 1939, at a rural Lutheran church in Root Prairie. After their wedding, Stan and Ruth moved to Stan's farm in Wolseth, N. Dakota, where his invalid mother also resided. Ruth accepted the responsibility of helping to care for Stan's wonderful mother, Christina. Their lives revolved around a small farm, including all the animals, milk cows, church activities, gardening, etc., which was common place to this area and generation. In 1963 the Hall's moved to Glenburn, ND, where she spent most of her later years. She was a long-time active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

From their marriage came three children; Phyllis Jean Preskey [deceased in 2008], Susan Rae Stringer and Galen Lee Hall. The later years of Ruth's life gave her the opportunity to spend time with her children, her 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 20 great, great grandchildren.

Ruth's calm and welcoming demeanor was a reflection of a life well lived serving the Lord. She worked for a time as school librarian at Glenburn High School, in addition to being active in community, civic and church events. In the latter years of Stanley's life his health was compromised and his care was the major focus of her life. He died in May 23, 1980.

Ruth lived independently in Glenburn for many years after Stan's passing and ended her last season in the home of her daughter Susan and husband Randel in rural Quitman, TX.
